Plot summary:

This movie displays a well-reputed and strict school named Welton Academy where only boys are allowed to study. A new boy gets admitted to the school whose name is Todd Anderson and he is paired as a roommate with Neil Perry who is one of the best students in the school. In a short period of time, Todd Anderson becomes good friends with Neil Perry’s friends.

A teacher is teaching in a class where he uses a very old method of teaching where the students have to tell exactly what he has written. Students reading there follow this method without any question and with full discipline. After that, it is shown that the next teacher enters the class who seems to be an English teacher and it is his first class in that very class. He enters the class whistling from the front door and leaves the room from the back door. All the students get amazed at him and look at the back door and he asks them to come out with him. So everyone follows him outside. After they come out, he first says,” O captain, my captain” and asks the student if anyone knows where the words are taken from. No one replies so he himself says that it is Walt Whitman who wrote the line for Abraham Lincoln. He explains what it means and everyone laughs.

Now he asks one of the students to read a poem. After that he tells the Latin word ‘Carpe diem’ and asks for the meaning. One of the boys replies that it means ‘seize the day’ and the teacher again asks the students why the writer used the line.  One of the students light-heartedly replies that the reason may be because he was in a hurry. The teacher declines the reason and explains that the writer used the line to depict that one day our hearts will stop too and we will be all cold and we will die, each one of us will die. And hence carpe diem means to live each day, to live every moment.

Now he shows photos of some old students who are no more in this world and he too was a student from the same school and he survived. He adds that there is no freedom of thought in this school and the students are taught just like the machines.

In the next class, the same teacher Keating asks Perry to read the introduction page. Perry reads it very well. Now  Keating tells everyone to rip the page off. All the students get surprised and ask him once again to make sure they heard right. Keating once again tells them to rip that page off. All of them do so with confusion. When everyone is tearing the paper, the silent class becomes noisy and as a result a teacher from the next class comes to ask why there is so much of noise. Keating had gone to bring the dustbin. That teacher after looking at Keating tells him that he thought he was not there. Keating now explains why he told them to tear that page. The reason is that there is a formula to rate a poem in that page and it is not correct and adds that poetry is something that they cannot rate. Keating also adds that we don’t write poems because it is beautiful but rather because we are humans and humans are full of passion. Law, business, and engineering are necessary to sustain life but poetry keeps us alive.

Keating now takes students from one of the classes to the courtyard where he asks three of the students to walk differently. When they walk, all the other boys start clapping. Mr. Keating asks them why they started clapping and the boys reply that we need acceptance in our lives. Keating is actually teaching the student the real way of living life. Now the strict headmaster who was looking at the students tells them to not break the rules. Now the students get to know that during Keating’s time, they had a group called the dead poets society but actually no such groups were allowed in that academy. They restart this society once again. They go to hidden places like caves and recite their poems and their thoughts. But the school is unknown about all these. Time flies and due to the way of Keating’s teaching and the dead poets society, a huge transformation is seen in the thoughts of students and their way of living life.

In all these, Neil discovers that he is very good at acting and he even wants to joat a play at his school. But his father doesn’t allow him to do so. On the other hand, Keating is teaching in a class where he stands at a table and asks the students why he is doing so. One of the students replies that he is doing so to look taller. But he replies he actually did this to look from a different perspective. After that, he asks all of them to stand there and have a different look.

One day Keating asks each of the students to come forward and speak something. Todd Anderson looks a little hesitant to come. Keating asks him to say the word ‘yawp’. He hesitates at first but finally tells it loudly after Keating motivates him. He asks Todd to speak whatever came to his head when he saw the picture on the wall. Todd gets hesitated at first but Keating calms him down and as a result he is able to generate a really beautiful poem. Each of the students gets amazed at him.

In the same school, there is another student named Charlie too. In a school magazine, he posts an article saying girls should study in their school too. And he posts the article by the name of the dead poets society. This makes the principal very angry and he calls Charlie to the office. He angrily asks Charlie the name of students who are involved in this society. But Charlie doesn’t take the name of even a single student. This makes the principal angrier and he starts beating Charlie in a very inhuman manner. But hens also Charlie doesn’t speak a word.

As a result, the principal tells Keating to make students understand that they cannot question the authority like this. Keating teaches them to understand the result before stepping into anything. Neil’s father comes to him to tell that he can’t take part in a drama. Neil tries to convince him in the best way possible but he can’t do so. Neil goes to Keating where he says that he should definitely do what his heart tells him to. He should prove to his dad that he definitely loves acting. So Neil decides to perform there. During his play, his father arrives there and eventually, he tells Neil that he has removed him from Welton and has admitted him to a military academy where he will prepare to go to Harvard and become a doctor. Neil becomes helpless, he can’t take that and commits suicide. Hence his father thinks that someone definitely was brainwashing his son and hence asks the principal to find it out.

On the other hand, one of the students from dead poets society, Cameron puts all the blame on Keating he does so because he wants to escape the punishment from being a part of the dead poets society since the principal has already known that the society exists and the members are too. Cameron even tells the members of the dead poets society that they should blame Keating for all this. This makes Charlie angry and as a result, he punches Cameron and due to this he gets rusticated from the school. On the other hand for all the allegations Cameron has put on Mr. Keating, a report is prepared and everyone is made to sign there. Todd Anderson says that he doesn’t want too but since he is helpless he signs too.

Mr. Keating is thrown out of his job. And now, the principal has started teaching English. He asks one of the students to read the introduction page but since they had already torn it off, he tells that they had torn the page. So the principal gives him his own book to read. And at the very moment Keating is seen leaving the classroom since he was taking his belongings out of the class. Todd Anderson gets up and tells him that he doesn’t know whether Mr. Keating will believe him or not but they were made to sign forcefully. The principal gets angry and warns him to not speak even a single word and asks Mr. Keating to leave.  But as Mr. Keating has reached the door, Todd gets up on the bench and starts telling “O captain my captain”. This was something Keating taught them and hence Keating stops for a while. And now half of the class students get up turn by turn in the same way. Keating becomes happy looking at the bravery of the students. The principal, who thought he has won by removing Keating out of the school because he thinks that he disturbed the four pillars of the academy, now, feels that he has lost. Keating had taught the students that they should call him ‘O captain my captain’ only when they think they have the courage in them. So he becomes happy looking at their courage to stand for truth, to stand for originality.

Plot summary:

The opening sequence of the movie starts with a reference to the Fast Five movie where Herman Reyes, don businessman of Rio De Janeiro is shown. He had hidden all the robbed money in a police station and now Dom and Brian pull the box full of money by their cars from the police station While Herman was chasing Dom, Dom drifts his car in such a way that Herman’s car gets struck with the almirah full of money that Herman loses all that money and his life too. Now Dante is fully determined to take revenge against Dom by making his family hell. Now the story begins from here as Fast X.

A scene is shown where a car is drifting furiously on the road and viewers assume that it is Dom but actually, it is his son who is called Brian or Little B by his father. Now Dom has his family reunion in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and there whole of his family is shown. Dom is seen spending quality time with his wife Letty when they are planning their next baby but suddenly there appears an injured lady who is Cipher(from Fast Eight). In that part, Cipher killed Dom’s wife Elena. Dom wants to kill her but Cipher adds that even his life is in danger and the enemy’s enemy seems to be a friend. Dom doesn’t understand her analogy and asks her to explain where the story goes to flashback. Cipher tells that she was working on a device that would hack everything, be it vehicles, satellites, and even big nuclear weapons. But Dante comes there and takes everything from her by making security to his side as he had made their family members hostage. Dante has the main motive of destroying Dom’s family. Since Cipher had lost everything so she came to Dom to ask for help since Dante was their common enemy.

Dom now contacts Little Nobody and asks when half of his team will come back from the mission in Rome. But Little Nobody tells that he had not sent them on any such mission. Actually, it was Dante’s tactics to put them into the trap where they have gone to take a device that doesn’t even exist in control.

Now the scene shifts to Rome where Tej Parker, Ramsey, and Roman are seen. They are seen trying to steal a  device from a big truck taking help from Han. Han throws a lot of smoke from his car whereas Roman makes the drivers blind by the luster of his golden car. On the other hand, Parker and Ramsey try getting into the truck. But the truck and the vehicles are under the control of Dante. At this time, Parker and Ramsey understand that there is no device as told by Little Nobody but instead, a very big bomb installed by Dante. At that very moment, Dom enters to help his family. Dom somehow manages to stop the truck but the big spherical bomb falls off the truck and starts rolling all over the town. He tries his best to save the town from the bomb and finally leads the bomb to a lake. The bomb blasts but its intensity is reduced by ten percent. But it has still caused a huge explosion in the town. Letty has been arrested by the police. Dante wanted to defame Dom and his family and wanted the police from all over the world to chase them.

Now a new character is introduced in the movie. His name is Aimes and he works for Little Nobody. We can see Little Nobody's daughter too in the scene whose name is Tess. She tells that when Dom and his family started doing the normal robbery, her father felt that they can help him with the country’s security and hence he hired them. Now that they are going through a hard time and since their security is at risk, she would definitely help them. But Aimes tells that since they have violated the laws, they should be kept in prison. They now have a conflict of ideas and hence they go different ways. Aimes has the motive of sending Dom and his family to the jail whereas Tess has the motive of saving them anyway.

Now, the scene in Rome is shown where Dom is seen talking with Queenie who used to be a villain. Now she has become his friend and she assures Dom that he will save his family anyway. Aimes now tells his security that since Dom is in Rome, so his family must be in Los Angeles. Hence he asks the security to catch his son and his sister there. And hence the team moves to Los Angeles for capturing Little B and Mia but they try their best to hide from them. And suddenly Jakob enters the scene and saves Little B. Tess and Dom meet in a bar where they drink Belgian beer.

In one scene Tej Parker, Ramsey, Roman, and Lue are still in Rome. Roman, fortunately, helps all of them escape to London they get there sitting in a container having aftershave spray. On the other hand, Jacob and Little B are heading toward the safe place in Los Angeles where Dom had told them to go. On the other hand, Letty is sent to the black side of Nobody’s agency for interrogation. Tess comes to meet her and makes a plan for how to save her.

Dom on the other hand goes to a party place where he got the information that Dante is. Dante arrives there and some people start pointing the gun towards Dante while others towards Dom. Since it would cause a lot of casualties, they don’t kill each other but rather plan a race and whoever wins will do what they want. The race starts between Dom, Dante, Isabel (Elena’s sister), and the race promoter. Dom would have easily won the race but doesn’t do so because he gets to know that Dante has fitted a bomb in Isabel  and the race promoter’s car. So he doesn’t speed up. He saves Isabel  by strongly hitting the car and making the bomb drop. Although her car dropped, she is safe now.

Now the scene shifts to Letty and Cipher where they are taken to some other place. Jakob has now reached the airport with Little B. Now Dominic and Isabel  are seen talking to each other. They remember Elena and get emotional. On the other hand, Parker, Roman, and, Ramsey have reached London along with Han Lue. They get into a shop to buy guns, cars, and gadgets for the upcoming mission. But the problem is Dante had already emptied each of their bank accounts. Letty and Cipher on the other hand are making a plan to escape but in the meantime, they start a fight among themselves too. Isabel  says to Dom that his sister had some files about the details of the property of Herman Reyes. They get the location of the same police station which was heisted by them years back. With the hope of finding Dante there, Dom goes there. Aimes comes his way but is blocked by the locals who are Dom’s friends but Aimes fights with them easily. Now the scene shifts towards Jacob and little B. They  get into the plane but realize that they have been followed by Dante’s men there too. So they make an escape through a glider ship.

Now the scene in London is shown where Han Lue makes a plan to talk to Deckard Shaw who may help them in getting things. Since Han Lue and Deckard Shaw didn’t have good terms so they start fighting with each other. At the same moment, Aimes’s men come to capture them but they make an escape anyway. They also get to know that Dante has emptied their accounts and given money to the serial killers who once used to be friends with Dom’s family but are behind their lives now.

On the other hand, Dominic has reached  that very police station where he gets a call from Dante who tells him how he ruined his father’s life. Aimes’s team has reached the place and Dom is now under their arrest. They are on the way to take him to the black side but they get stopped by a missile by Dante and he creates a scene there. They get into a fight and now Aimes is also on Dom’s side to catch Dante. Now Aimes’s team and Dom’s team are collectively working to capture Dante.

On the other hand, Jakob has reached Portugal with Little B.  Jakob shows him a car tank too. In the next scene Parker, Roman, Han Lue, and Ramsey get into a plane to come to Dom but Dante had already fitted the bomb there too, and as a result, they are shown as if they lost their lives in that explosion. Meanwhile, Dante has known Jakob’s location and hence he goes with the team to capture them. Jakob and Little B are seen firing Dante’s team. Dom has also reached the scene where is seen giving his best to save them. But Dante somehow takes Little B into his car. And here in order to save Little B, Jakob gives up his life by blocking the way by gliding the car. With full effort, Dom saves his son from Dante. But Dante had some more plans to destroy them. Two trucks are seen approaching them from two directions. So Dom makes his car jump into the river and both of them are safe. But here also Dante has put the bombs on the grand canyon. And the story closes here for the next sequel where it will be shown how he will fight against Dante. On the other hand, Letty and Cipher escape to Antarctica where Gisele comes to help them. At the end credit it is shown that when Dom took the almirah full of money from Herman, it was not Dom who shot Herman. It was Hobbs who killed him. So Hobbs is shown as the next target of Dantey and the further is expected to be shown in the next sequel and the movie comes to an end.

Page’s review:

Fast X seems to be an action-packed movie. Dante’s  (Momoa’s) acting is on point, he is hilarious at times too but during fight scenes I expected him to show more fighting actions and be more harsh. He sometimes reminded me of his character Flip from his fantasy movie Slumberland. On the other hand, being a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, it made me a little dissatisfied that I won’t be able to see Jakob as he loses his life in this movie. Also, many people like Parker, Roman, Ramsey, and Han Lue are shown as if they are no more which disheartened me. But overall the movie keeps the viewers engaged and desperate to watch the next sequel.

But his cars are questioned by EPA, Environmental Protection Agency which certifies cars after looking at the pollution measurement and now the cars stopped at the port. Charlie has a small office where he himself, his girlfriend Susanna, and his friend work. The customers now start asking for the down payment back because the cars are not delivered yet. He assures them that the cars will be soon certified by the EPA and hence will be delivered.

Now Charlie goes on a date, basically a drive with his girlfriend Susanna where he receives a call. It is his friend Lanny who tells him that his father is no more and tomorrow is his funeral. So Charlie goes there. Now they go to their dad’s funeral. After going there he gets to know that his father has just left a vintage car and a bouquet for him although he had a lot of wealth. He also gets to know that he has left his three million dollar property to an unnamed trustee. This leaves Charlie in shock because according to him he was the only child. Charlie after a thorough search knows that the unnamed trustee is in a mental institute. Charlie goes there and for the very first time gets to know that his elder brother Raymond lives there. He never had an idea that he had an elder brother too. His brother Raymond is autistic, which means he has some developmental disability due to differences in his brain. There he meets Dr. Bruner who informs him that Raymond himself is the unnamed trustee. He also adds that Raymond doesn’t have any money concept and he doesn’t even understand that his father is no more in this world.

Charlie starts spending a lot of time with his brother. He even takes him out of the mental institute telling the concerned that he was going to take him just for a stroll. He takes him to a hotel to stay. But since his brother is autistic, his routine seems to be disturbed because Charlie has brought him there. Raymond starts becoming difficult asking for those things. This makes Charlie so irritated that he starts misbehaving with his elder brother. This makes Susanna sad and tells him that he only uses others for his benefit and nothing more and leaves the place. The next day Charlie and his brother go to the restaurant for breakfast where he calls the doctor and says that his brother Raymond will now stay with him and if they want to take him back, he should get 1.5 million dollars from that three million. Doctor Bruner rejects such a deal but Charlie adds that they can’t even case a file of kidnapping since he is his brother. He further tells that he will bring him back if his deal is fulfilled and otherwise they will meet in court. While returning from the restaurant, Raymond crashes with a waitress and the toothpicks from her hand fall off. The next moment Raymond tells the total count of the toothpicks. At first Charlie and the waitress do not believe him but after the waiter counts them it turns out to be true. This leaves Charlie impressed.

Now they go to the airport so that they can head towards Los Angeles. There he gets a call from Lanny who tells him that it has become difficult for him to keep the customers waiting and they either want the payment back or the car. Charlie asks for some more time. Raymond doesn’t agree to go by that airline because he knows that there had been many crashes on that airline before and it is not safe to go by that airline. And hence Charlie takes the name of other airlines but Raymond keeps on giving the crash count of those airlines. Raymond has a keen sense of remembering everything he reads and since he had read about the airlines in the past, hence he knows everything now. Charlie gets frustrated and starts taking him forcefully but Raymond starts crying loudly and as a result, he has to take him by the car. But the problem doesn’t end here.

There was a deadly accident on the highway and as a result, was a huge traffic jam. Raymond feels very uncomfortable and decides to go on foot. But Charlie somehow manages to stop him from doing that. It starts raining the next day and Raymond refuses to travel since it is raining and hence they have to stay a whole day in the hotel. The next day, Charlie restarts the journey, and on the way he stops at a phone booth for a call but he realizes that his brother is not in the car. He gets worried and finally finds him after a search. Charlie takes Raymond to a psychiatrist. After some examinations and interrogations, they get to know that Raymond has a special ability. He can do very big mathematical calculations within some seconds. The psychiatrist even adds that Raymond should join NASA because his capabilities seem to fit there. Charlie now stays in a hotel with his brother where he asks him how he can do such calculations so fast. But Raymond replies that even he doesn’t know how he does so.

Charlie gets a very old photo of him, Raymond, and his father from Raymond. Now after looking at the photo, Charlie figures out that Raymond is the same guy whom Charlie used to call ‘Rain Man’ instead of Raymond in his childhood. Now in the next scene, it is seen that Raymond gets afraid of the hot water tap and now Charlie remembers the incident in his childhood where Raymond saved him from hot water but his father considered Raymond as the one who did that to him and sent him to the asylum. Charlie has now started understanding his brother. He even brings a special tv for Raymond since he kept on telling that his schedule was disturbed. Charlie again gets a call that his cars are not certified by EPA. This leaves him in shock. Charlie now has a debt of eighty thousand dollars.

Charlie in order to know more about his brother’s counting skills spreads cards on the bonnet of his car and takes some of the cards to his hands. He asks him which card is on the bonnet and which is in his hands. Raymond correctly tells all of them. And hence an idea strikes his mind. He teaches him how to play cards and takes Raymond to the casino and he plays it so well that they earn a sum of eighty-six thousand dollars. Everyone around them gets amazed at their play. Charlie is very happy with Raymond that he has helped him get his debt off in a single day. They go to a beautiful hotel that day and Charlie teaches Raymond how to dance there.

It is seen that love for his brother is growing more and more in Charlie’s heart.  Susanna also comes back to Charlie’s life. The next day, three of them go to the same casino but the owner rejects them from playing and even threatens them to not be seen nearby. Now they get back to Los Angeles. Dr Bruner comes to meet Charlie and offers him a check of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars and asks Raymond back because it is the best place for him and he had even promised their father that he will take care of Raymond. Charlie now replies that he doesn’t want anything from him and neither from the property but wants custody of his brother so that he can keep him for his lifetime. They bring a psychologist from the court to decide whether to give custody to Charlie or to the institution. He asks Raymond for number of times but he doesn’t give clear answers at all. The interrogations seem difficult for Raymond and hence Charlie asks the psychologist to take the decision on the basis of whatever he has asked till now.

Charlie has now started feeling that he probably won’t get Raymond’s custody. Charlie gets emotional and tells Raymond that he feels lucky to have a brother like him. The next day he gets to know that he has lost custody. The next day he goes to drop Raymond off the train with Dr. Bruner. Charlie assures Raymond that he will come to meet him every two weeks.

This crime drama movie was released in April 1957. This Oscars-nominated movie was directed by Sidney Lumet and the screenplay was written by Reginald Rose.

The cast includes the following actors:

Henry Fonda as jury member eight

Lee J. Cobb as jury member three

Joseph Sweeney as jury member nine

Martin Balsam as a jury member one

Ed Begley jury member ten

John Savoca as the accused young boy

Jack Klugman as jury member five

Jack Warden as jury member seven

John Fiedler as jury member two

E.G. Marshall as jury member four

Edward Binns as jury member six

Robert Webber as jury member twelve

Plot summary:

The opening sequence of the movie displays a country courthouse in New York where the judge speaks to the jury members saying that after knowing all the case details, it’s time for the court to take the decision. And the court needs the opinion of the jury for that and they are given some time. This case is actually a murder case where a 12 years old boy is accused of killing his father by stabbing him with a knife. Now the jury has to decide whether the boy is guilty or not. Now all the jury members come to a room where they sit together and discuss the case and their decision.

The first two witnesses nearly convince the jury that it was the boy who killed the man and he should be proven guilty. One of them says that he saw from his window that the boy was attacking his father with a knife. Another man says that he saw the boy shouting at his father telling him that he will kill him and he even saw the man falling on the ground and the boy running from the scene. According to the old records of the boy, he seems to be a bit violent. A few days ago, he had bought a knife similar to the one which was stabbed on his father’s body. The knife is presented to the jury. But the fingerprints were removed from that knife.

At first, all the jury members take the case very lightly, especially jury number seven who is in a hurry to go and watch a basketball match. Early voting begins when all the jury members accept that the boy is guilty except jury number eight. He thinks that we can’t reach the decision without having further discussions in the case. He asks the second witness and brings another knife also just as same as that knife which means that the knife is common. Now the secret voting happens once again and now one more voter that is jury member nine says that he also thinks that the guy is not guilty because he too thinks that more discussion needs to be done before deciding.

The discussion begins. Jury number eight says that due to the noise of the train passing through the house where the murder happened nothing is audible and he tells that witness number two must have heard something else. After this, jury member five too changes his vote supporting the boy as not guilty. Similarly, jury member eleven says that if the boy has murdered his father, then he will not come to take the knife back from which the fingerprints are already removed. Jury member eight adds that many times people verbally tell that they will kill someone else but this literally doesn’t mean that they are really going to kill them and these are the words that come out of anger and nothing else. Jury members five, nine, and eight now start questioning the witness now which furies jury member eight and they get into a fight. And as a result, he tells jury member eight that he will kill him. And hence the point of jury member eight is proved that people tell such words out of fury. Although jury member three told that he really didn’t have an intention of actually doing it.

After listening to this jury members two and six changed their vote. And hence now half of them think that the boy is guilty and the other half jury members think that they are not. Jury member four has a doubt about what the boy told during the hearing and he thinks that the boy didn’t tell what really happened that night. And hence to prove him wrong jury member eight takes a memory test of him asking him what he did a week ago. It becomes difficult for him to remember things. And hence he tells that as it became difficult for jury member four to remember things from the past, the boy too probably has forgotten some details.

Jury member two adds that since the boy is smaller than his dad in height hence it must not be possible for him to stab his dad with the wound spreading from top to bottom. Jury member three experimentally shows how this is possible by showing stabbing gestures toward jury member eight. But jury member five shows that a stabber who knows how to use a knife will always stab from bottom to top.

Jury member seven who had to go to watch a match finds that his match was canceled and hence he changes his vote too and his actions make jury member eleven angry. Now the voting starts one more time when jury members one and twelve change their vote too. Now nine of them are for ‘not guilty’ and three are for ‘guilty’.

During all these jury member ten becomes angry at all the other jury members but jury member four calms him down. Jury member four tells that the first lady witness saw the boy stabbing his father from the other side of the road. Now jury member twelve comes again for ‘guilty ’ after hearing him. Now jury member four starts pressing at the mark made on his nose due to his spectacles. Looking at that jury member Nine suddenly remembers that the lady about whom they are talking also had a similar mark but she had not worn the specs in the court. Jury member eight adds that the lady was sleeping during the incident and hence was not wearing the specs. And it is not convincing that she put the specs at that very moment to look at the incident and hence she must have seen something else.

After this all the jury members except jury member three support for ’not guilty’. Jury member three becomes angry and starts shouting at each of them. He also remembers his relationship with his son and starts crying and tells " Not guilty". Now all of them are supporting ‘not guilty’. All of them come out of the room to give a decision. Jury member eight helps jury member three to calm down and put on his coat. And hence finally, the boy, who was nearly considered guilty before is now proved not guilty. Outside the court, jury members eight and nine are seen shaking hands and introducing themselves for the first time, and walking their own way.

When Augustus finishes reading that book, he becomes very sad and dissatisfied with the ending of the story. The ending seems incomplete as it ends with a sentence spoken by Anna. It is not mentioned what happens to Anna or how her family deals with it.  Augustus has a friend who is battling eye cancer and is losing his sight and eventually getting blind. He had a girlfriend but she breaks up with him due to his condition. This makes him so depressed. Hence Hazel comes to Augustus’s home to make his friend feel better. On the other hand, Augustus is still not happy due to the ending of the book. Hazel says that the author of the book is Peter Van Houten and after he published the book, the book became really famous but he moved to Amsterdam and no one knows where he is living there.

Time flies and they become better friends with time. In the meantime, Augustus traces Van’s assistant and sends the email address to Hazel. Hazel becomes very positive and sends the mail to the assistant that they are not satisfied with the ending of the novel and want to know what happens after that. But instead, she receives mail from the author himself saying that the ending is very different and can’t tell her through email because she may share that on the internet or publish the sequel. And he even adds that if she wants to know the ending, she can come to meet him in Amsterdam along with his friend. She becomes so happy that she starts making loud noises. This frightens her mother and she comes there. She asks her mother if she can go there but her mother is worried because of the financial constraints. Augustus suggests to Hazel that there is a cancer fund that would fulfill the dream of every cancer patient. But Hazel had already used the wish to go to Disneyland.

With time passing, Augustus starts falling in love with Hazel. One day when they go to a picnic, he surprises her with two tickets to Amsterdam. Hazel becomes very happy and goes to the doctor to ask for permission. The doctor is unsure at first but since Hazel is going to get bedridden after a few months so she allows her to live her life. Hence Hazel, her mother, and Augustus go to Amsterdam.  That evening, Hazel and Augustus go to a very romantic dinner and there he confesses his love. Hazel becomes emotional because she knows that she doesn’t have much time left.  They go for a beautiful evening walk too.

The next day, they go to the writer’s house where they meet Lidewij, his secretary. But when Peter comes there, he starts drinking. This makes them feel a little weird but with full hope, they start asking him about the ending. But Peter doesn’t look concerned at all and tells her that instead of getting this conscious about the ending if she was concerned about her health, she would not get cancer. He even adds that they are wasting their parent’s money by coming this way long. He keeps on insulting them. They become very sad and leave the place. Lidewij feels sorry about whatever happened and asks for pardon from them. She even invites them sightseeing where they go to see Anne Frank’s house. Anne Frank’s diary is famous all over the world. While visiting the house, Hazel feels difficulty walking up the stairs. So they get into one of the rooms where she remembers the inspirational words of Anne Frank which motivates her to find happiness within. Hazel gets emotional and they kiss each other. They spend a beautiful night that day.

The next day, Augustus tells Hazel that his cancer has recurred and has now spread all through his body which means that it is the final stage. They get very emotional remembering they don’t have much time to spend together and thinking about why the world is so unfair.

They get back to their place in Indiana and soon Augustus gets very ill and is even taken to the ICU. Everyone understands that Augustus doesn’t have much time left. Augustus’s friend Isaac has now become completely blind. Augustus calls Isaac to arrange a pre-funeral for him so that he will know what they are going to speak at his funeral. Hazel pours her heart out in the speech. She tells how he filled her life with happiness in such a short period of time and it is worth more than a full life. Isaac, Augustus, and Hazel get very emotional at that meeting. Eight days after that Augustus unfortunately passes away. At the funeral, the same Peter Van Houten comes. He gets into the car of Hazel. He first asks for pardon for the bad behavior shown. Now he tells her that the novel is based on her daughter’s life and she left the world after battling cancer. And hence he put such a sad incomplete ending because wanted the reader to know how difficult real life is. He was still drunk which makes Hazel very angry. He even gives Hazel a letter but she leaves it in the car unread.

Hazel now meets Isaac and he tells her that Augustus repeatedly insisted Peter come to his funeral and explain to Hazel whatever happened to Anna as his dying wish. And hence Van Houten came there. He also added that Augustus had written an article saying how he felt about Hazel but since he didn’t know the proper words, so he sent that letter to Van Houten so that he can make it beautiful and give it to her at his funeral. She gets into the car crying and reads the article. This leaves her sobbing so much after reading all the beautiful words about her. Augustus tells her to not be depressed, to cherish the moments they shared but move on in life happily. She looks at the sky and replies “Okay” to Augustus. This scene leaves every viewer in tears.

One day when Chris is talking to his client on the phone, a dashing car stops nearby him. Chris keeps on looking at the car and can’t help himself from asking the owner. He asks him what he does and how he does it. The man points towards a building and replies that he is a share broker. When Chris looks at anyone coming out of that building, he realizes that everyone is coming out happily. He decides to start working as a share broker. He tells his wife that he is no more going to do business with the scanners. His wife humiliates him by telling him that no one was going to buy them anyway. He adds that he will work as a share broker. His wife insults him saying why he won’t be an astronaut. She tells this because she has no faith in him. Chris feels bad about everything she told. Finally, his wife decides that she will no longer live with him. She takes her son and leaves the place. Chris becomes angry and tells her that she can leave if she wants but she has to give his son back to her. Chris loves his son very much but he also knows that he can’t keep his son legally because he has to stay with his mother. But fortunately, Linda gets a job somewhere in Europe and hence she has to leave the place and as a result, Chris gets to keep his son.

One day the house owner comes to him and informs him that he has not paid the rent for months and since he has to paint the house, he wants his house empty. Chris asks for a few more days so that he can earn some money. The owner accepts Chris’s request asking him to paint the whole house if he wants to stay there for one more week. Chris has applied for the job in the share market and tomorrow is his interview. While he was painting his house, he gets caught by the police because he has not paid the parking rent for a long time. They take him to the police station. He asks him to let him go but they don’t do so because they too have some rules. Chris gets out of jail the next day and goes straight to the share office running. He doesn’t even have a shirt on but an old jacket with dabs of paint all over his face and his clothes. He gets called in for the interview but at first, he doesn’t have the courage to get in. but finally with full courage, he goes to the interview room. The interviewers get confused looking at him and how he can be this ignorant on such an important day. Instead of making excuses, he tells everything that happened yesterday. They ask for his qualifications but that too doesn’t impress them well. Chris tells the jury that he has the capability to seek the answer anyhow if someone questions him. One of the judges asks him if someone comes to give an interview without outing his shirt and he gives him the job too, what the reason may be behind this. Chris tells him that he probably has worn a very good pair of pants. The answer leaves the jury impressed. Hence he gets selected for the job. But this job is actually an internship given to 20 people for six months and at the end of the session only one of them will get the job. This leaves Chris a bit confused. So he tells one of the jury that he will inform him whether or not he will come to work. That man from the jury tells him that he has time till tomorrow morning to decide. He decides that he will work for the office.

Chris has sold some scanners and has a balance that will be enough for six months to live. He shifts to another house. But one day when he is returning from the office, he receives a letter from the government stating that since he has not paid the taxes the government has seized all his money. This leaves him speechless. Now he doesn’t have money to pay for the rent too. One day after returning from the office with his son he sees that the house owner has kept all his items out of the house. Now he is homeless too. He goes to one of his friend’s house to ask for the money he lent but his friend doesn’t open the door at all. Chris now has his belongings and his son but no idea where to go. So he goes to a metro station but has no idea where to go. He gets inside a washroom and his son falls asleep there. He decides to spend his night there only. He feels the lowest point of his life then and there. The next day he goes to a church to ask for the shelter but he is told that it is only for women and children. He asks for the next church and gets shelter. But the problem is that the church has limited seats and hence he should reach in time to get there.

Now the real struggle begins. Although Chris has to work till seven in the office he works till 5 only. He doesn’t drink a drop of water because it will make him pee and it will waste his time. He doesn’t even waste a single minute and works continuously, brings his son back from school, and goes back to the church hurriedly. He still has the last scanner left and thinks about how to sell it. He goes to a hospital to sell but while showing the demonstration he realizes that it is not working. This wrenches his heart as it was his last hope.

While inspecting the machine, he finds out that one of the parts is not working but he cannot afford to buy it. So he goes to a hospital to sell his blood and buys the part from it. The machine starts working and he makes some money by buying it. With that money, he gets a room and sleeps easily with his son there.

Chris on the other hand is preparing for a theory exam that he needs to pass in order to get the job. The exam day comes and Chris does it well. Now the result day has arrived and each of them is called upon by the same jury. Now it is Chris’s turn and he looks at the jury which is the same as in the first qualifier interview. The most senior of the jury tells Chris that he has worn a beautiful shirt. Chris replies that since it is going to be his last day so he wants to leave the place wearing a good shirt. He told this because he had no hope of getting the job among those highly qualified interns. That senior man from the jury asks him if he will wear the same shirt tomorrow too. This means that Chris has got the job. This leaves Chris in tears and he replies with a ‘yes’. Everything has changed in Chris’s life now. He is economically stable and living a happy life with his son. At the end of the movie, the real Chris Gardner is also shown on whom the whole movie is based. After working for a few years there, Chris establishes his own investment firm which he sells later on in multi-million dollars.

The opening sequence of the movie shows a boy blackmailing his widow mother that he will sell the stuff from his home if she doesn’t do what he tells her and his mother gives him a locket. Now the present scene is shown where the boy grows up and his name is Harry. The scene shows Harry selling his mother’s television with his friend Tyrone to buy drugs. This depicts that he and his friend are drug addicts. Her mother goes to the same shop where his son sells the television to buy it once again. The shopkeeper asks the lady why she doesn’t send her son to the police for his addiction. She tells him that she has no one except him so she can’t do so.

The lady, too has an addiction to watching a tv show too much. One day she gets a call from a person from the same tv show who tells her that she has been selected to appear in that game show. This makes her overwhelmed with joy. She starts dreaming to appear in the show.  She decides to wear a red dress for the show. She goes to her neighbor to tell her that she has been selected and she will be wearing that red dress for the show. But that dress doesn’t fit her since she has become overweight. Her friend gives her a diet book named “Ten Pounds in ten days” in order to help her lose weight. She works accordingly with the restricted diet for a few days but can’t continue that because of her eating habits. So she plans to meet a doctor who would help her to lose her weight.

She tells her doctor that she would have to lose around 20 kilograms of weight. The doctor prescribes her some pills and tells her to take them during her meal. In the next scene, it is shown that Tyrone and Harry are planning to start a legal business by collecting money after selling cocaine. Harry has a girlfriend whose name is Marion. She lives away from her family and she, too is a drug addict. Harry tells her that after earning money from the sold drugs, he will make a designer showroom for her so they can earn, more money.

They start selling drugs and as a result, they earn a lot of money. They collect that money in a box. As time flies, they start having better lives. Harry buys a big television for his mother too. With time, the amount of money starts decreasing too because they spend it on many things. One day during drug dealing, Tyrone gets caught by the police and gets locked up in a prison. Harry has to pay a big sum of money to get him back.

After all these incidents, Harry goes to meet his mother Sara where he gets to know that she is taking some medicines regularly which even she doesn’t know what they exactly are. He forbids her from taking them because he knows that they can induce some addiction too. But she tells him that it's nothing but the medicine that will help her lose some weight so that she can go to her favorite show and tell the viewers about her life and her husband. This will make her famous all through the country and she will start making some money too. After that, Harry leaves that place and starts crying looking at the condition of his mother.

Now all the money that they had made is spent. They don’t even have enough money to buy the drug so that they can sell them. Looking at the situation Harry asks his girlfriend Marion to get intimate with her psychiatrist and ask for a sum of two hundred dollars. After that, they will be able to restart their business.  Marion keeps on rejecting but finally, Harry convinces her to do so. She gets into a physical relationship with her psychiatrist Arnold and as a result, she gets paid a sum of two hundred dollars. Harry goes with Tyrone to buy the drugs with that money. But it is so crowded that people start hurting each other physically. And gun firing starts there too. This makes the scene so chaotic that they have to come back without receiving the drugs.

On the other hand, Sara is rampantly losing her weight. Although she has lost her weight, she has also got addicted to the medicine. As a result, she has started hallucinating scenes. To avoid them, she starts taking higher doses of those medicines rather than consulting the doctors. She even hallucinates that she has reached the show and the host has been asking her questions.

When Marion gets to know that Harry and Tyrone didn’t receive any drugs that day, she gets mad. Marion and Harry get into a fight. Finally, Harry assures Marion that he knows about another drug dealer named Tim. But when he calls Tim, he says that he wants a girl in exchange for the drugs. After that, Harry cuts the call and decides to go to Florida to get the drugs that are farther from his place. On the other hand, Marion is not getting drugs and that is making her sick. So she decides to call Tim by herself. She cuts the call first but next time she talks to him and asks for his address. She goes to the address and gets into a physical relationship with him. Tim gets impressed with her and invites her to a party too.

On the other hand, Harry and Tyrone have reached Florida. But a wound starts appearing on Harry’s hand due to multiple injections taken. This gets worse day by day and hence Tyrone takes him to the hospital. The doctor understands that it is a case of drug addiction and hence calls the police. The police take them to the police station.

On the other hand, Sara has not been invited to the show yet. She gets so lost in her hallucinations that she sees her refrigerator walking toward her. Sara runs from the apartment and gets into a train. There she talks with the passengers in such a weird way that they understand that she is not doing well. So they take her to the hospital where she receives so many harsh shock treatments.

Harry on the next hand is suffering from immense pain in his arm in prison. So he is taken to the hospital. Tyron is made to work very hard in prison which gets him to mental stress. Tyrone starts crying looking at the condition of Harry. Now Harry calls Marion that he will return back soon and even tells her not to leave him. When Marion asks him if he can come today, Harry starts crying.

All the treatments done to her do no work on Sara. So the doctors decide to do shock treatment for her. In the next scene, it is shown that Marion has reached the party. And a lot of gang members are seen at that sex party. Here these people ask her to do different sexual acts.

Now different scenes are parallelly shown in the movie. In one scene, it is shown that the shock treatment worsens the conditions of Sara. In the next scene, Harry is seen lying on the hospital bed with his arm cut. In the other scene, Tyrone is seen to be so depressed and energyless. While in the next scene, Marion arrives at her home with a huge sum of money lying on her couch after getting sexually used. Sara is still hallucinating herself on the tv show while Harry is hopelessly remembering his and Marion’s dream of becoming a successful businessman. The movie depicts how they ruin each of their lives due to addiction.

Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield who are the two lead characters of the movie come to an apartment to take a briefcase with their associate, Brett. They are hitmans (those who kill for money). They have come to take the briefcase for their boss, Marsellus Wallace who is a gangster. While Vincent was checking the contents of the briefcase, Jules shoots one of the associates of Brett and kills him. Brett starts to utter a passage from the bible trying to deceive Vega and Jules, but they both shoot Brett and kill him instead.

They now come to a bar to deliver the briefcase to Wallace. They have to wait for some time as the boss was bribing a boxer, Butch Coolidge to die in the upcoming game. The next day, Vincent buys some heroin from Lance and injects it. As Wallace was out of time, Vincent had to take care of Wallace’s wife Mia Wallace for some time. They have dinner in a 1950s-themed restaurant. They participate in a dance-off contest and win the contest. They come back home with the trophy. While Vincent was using the bathroom, Mia finds a heroine from Vincent’s overcoat and uses it thinking it is cocaine. Vincent finds overdosed Mia lying on the sofa and takes her to Lance’s home in a hurry. Then, an adrenaline shot beside the heart of Mia wakes her up.

Butch Coolidge betrays Wallace and kills the opponent boxer instead. Then, he and his girlfriend Fabienne are shown in a hotel room, where they start planning to run away from Wallace. Butch finds out that the watch that his father has given was missing. His girlfriend had forgotten to pack the watch. He is angry with his girlfriend and goes away from the hotel to retrieve the watch. When he reaches home to take the watch, he finds a gun kept at his kitchen counter and also hears the sound of the toilet flushing. Vincent comes out from the bathroom and butch shoots him and kills him. While Butch was waiting for the traffic lights to go green, Marsellus sees him and his Butch are injured in an accident. Marsellus chases butch down to a store. The store owner Maynard catches both of them and locks them inside a basement. A security guard named Zed joins Maynard. Zed takes Marsellus to another room to rape him. They leave Butch with a man who was wearing a costume. Butch escapes and kills the man. He was about to escape from the place but decides to save Marsellus instead. He takes a katana (a type of long knife) from the store and goes to save Marsellus in the other room. Butch kills Maynard and Marsellus kills Zed with Maynard’s shotgun. Marsellus tells Butch that they are at peace with each other until Butch does not spill out about Marsellus’s rape to anyone. Marsellus leaves Los Angeles forever from now on. Butch goes to pick up his girlfriend Fabienne in Zed’s chopper biker.

In the earlier scene where Jules and Vincent kill Brett, another man comes out from the bathroom and heavily shoots them. But, fortunately, none of the bullets touch either of them and they then kill the other guy. Jules believes that to survive in that situation is not less than a miracle but Vincent doesn’t agree to that. While Jules was driving, Vincent unknowingly shoots Brett’s associate Marvin and kills him. They hide the car in Jimmy’s house. Jimmy who is a friend of Jules says to them that they should clean up the mess before his wife returns back home. Jimmy is portrayed in the movie by the director himself, Quentin Tarantino. Marsellus sends his cleaner Winston Wolfe to Jimmy’s place. Wolfe insists Jules and Vincent clean the car and hide the dead body in the trunk of the car and take the car to a junkyard. Vincent and Jules change their clothes in Jimmy’s place and go to get some food for dinner. There, Jules explains to Vincent that he wants to get out of his criminal life. He believes that their survival earlier in the movie was a sign to retire from crime.

While Vincent was in the bathroom a couple who were shown to be dining in the first scene of the movie are shown. The girl’s name was Honey Bunny and the boy’s name was Pumpkin. They rob the people of the dinner. Jules then shows the briefcase which they got from Brett’s place and points them a gun to stop them from robbing the place. Honey Bunny is frightened and points her gun toward Jules. Then, Vincent comes out from the bathroom and points his gun toward Honey Bunny. This is a classic example of a Mexican Standoff (a strategy where everyone is pointing a gun toward each other and the strategic tension starts rising until the situation is settled). They let the robbers take the cash and leave. Vincent and Jules also leave the dinner taking their briefcase.

This is the ending scene of the movie.
